Become a wedding planner, and you can enjoy a career which will never go out of fashion, or be superseded by technology. As you go into business as a wedding planner with an inherent disadvantage due to lack of experience, it is a good idea to pick up a formal qualification which will prove that you have competence in the field.

Starting a wedding planning business without a qualification just makes a hard task even harder. It is true, however, that a portfolio of weddings which you have successfully organized is far more important, and means far more to prospective clients. At the start, though, you cannot have this, and so the qualification helps you to persuade people to give you a chance. Also, going through a formal course can help you make vital contacts in the industry. As this is very much a people based business, any good contacts you can make can be worth a lot to you over time.

A wedding planner business has to start small and build up if it to have any chance of surviving in a highly competitive industry. As soon as you have even one or two successful weddings under your belt, it is vital to ask for testimonials, and make up a brochure of the successes you have had. When potential clients contact you, you can show them the brochure and tell them how you successfully organized the weddings.

If you are just starting out in your wedding planning business, it will be a good idea to try and find a cash-strapped couple and offer them a special deal. Give them a huge discount if they will allow you to refer other potential clients to them for testimonial, and they may well take you up on the offer. It will be a major breakthrough if you can get quality testimonials. Building up your reputation is your most important task, as you strive to become a wedding planner.
